Recently, we received good news from Tunisia: metrology is now an integral component of university physics degree programmes! We were highly pleased to hear from our project partners at the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research about this milestone in the development of our cooperation. Effective from this academic year, metrology will be taught as a fundamental component of over 20 courses in the second year of physics degree programmes at Tunisian universities.
It was the support of a PTB project titled “Developing expertise in quality assurance for the export sector”, which is currently in its second phase, that allowed this step to be taken. Among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), demand is high for experts educated at universities and vocational schools who have solid knowledge in the field of metrology. For this reason, our project’s activities are geared toward making trained personnel available to Tunisian companies in order to improve the competitiveness of their products with the goal of exporting them to the EU. The fact that metrology-based content is now being incorporated into uni-versity curricula in a way that is practice-oriented and meets the demand of SMEs is something to celebrate – both for us and for our Tunisian project partners. We would like to offer our congratulations – and we look forward to continuing our cooperation!
