As World Population Day approaches on 11 July, it is important to reflect on how we can reduce our carbon footprints on a planet that is already experiencing the highest population in history – 8.26 billion people and counting.
Each of us can make small or big changes in our everyday lives to limit our impact on the environment. Increasing the energy efficiency of our homes, shifting to a more plant-based diet, choosing sustainable clothing, or taking public transportation come to mind. Perfection is not the goal – every step we take is important.
A large organization like PTB, however, also has great potential to make a difference!
In 2022, the International Cooperation group launched “International Cooperation 2.0” (IZ 2.0), an environmental strategy for our cooperation work. We are proud to have already achieved these important goals:
✅ Significantly reducing the number of flights per year – and flying economy when a business trip is required
✅ Creating and promoting digital tools
✅Establishing virtual events and training courses
✅ Anchoring sustainability for in-person event management – using less paper, relying on public transportation, vegetarian catering, environmentally friendly giveaways
✅ Raising awareness of staff members for environmental aspects in project planning
Our work won’t stop here. We are committed to reinventing project work to be more sustainable. Stay tuned to see where IZ 2.0 takes us in the future!
