Today, the CSIR-NPL India, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Physical Laboratory, celebrates the 75th anniversary of its foundation. The PTB sends its warmest congratulations and all the best for the future. Together with the CSIR-NPL, the PTB proudly looks back on a successful partnership over many years and has high expectations for further fruitful cooperation in the future.
On the occasion of the founding anniversary, a National Metrology Conclave took place today as an online event. The theme of the event was Metrology for Inclusive Growth of India. Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the event in the presence of Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Wealth and Familiy Welfare, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, and Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Director General CSIR and secretary DCSIR. In a pre-message the Prime Minister already emphasized the great and hopeful development potential of India as a youthful nation, especially with regard to the improvement of ecosystems and the more environmentally friendly use of energy. Worldwide, key speakers from national metrology institutes and international metrology organizations were invited. President Professor Joachim Ullrich gave a talk on behalf of PTB entitled Metrology for renewable energy: Challenges for 21st century. As a token of appreciation, the PTB presented the CSIR-NPL with a silicon sphere. Since a personal handover is not possible at the moment, the gift was presented symbolically as a photo for the time being. The real silicon sphere is on its way to India.
On the occasion of the anniversary, a book entitled Metrology for Inclusive Growth of India will be published. It summarizes the progress made by the Institute and can serve as an orientation for scientists for the times to come.
