An information brochure about quality infrastructure (QI) for green hydrogen, called “The Quality Infrastructure System for Green Hydrogen. Creating the Basis for the Development of the Emerging Sector”, has now been published.
This 15-page publication deals with a number of core issues. These comprise questions related to the QI services which are required when establishing a green hydrogen economy as well as the positive effects of standards, certification and new competence in metrology. Furthermore, Niels Ferdinand, the author who has been working as a freelance evaluator for PTB for many years, explores why QI can play a decisive role in the safe handling of this highly explosive gas.
Using what can be achieved with hydrogen and how a green hydrogen economy can be reached both technically and economically as a starting point, Mr. Ferdinand traces the value chain for green hydrogen. In addition, the now 60 years of experience of PTB’s International Cooperation Group are applied to green-hydrogen-related issues of the future in the final chapter.
Green hydrogen is currently a hot topic and thus prominent in the media, research and politics. It could potentially be the new climate-neutral “natural gas of tomorrow”. But until that time, there are many issues to address as well as social and technological challenges to meet. With this in mind, the publication has successfully begun to take stock of the aspect of QI for green hydrogen. At the same time, it encourages further deliberation and discussions, and will help us to delve deeper into the subject.
When it comes to green hydrogen, we are experiencing the beginning of the development process. It must be analysed constructively — but also critically — particularly from a development policy perspective. And it is a process that we need to shape together with our partners.
Happy reading!
