The Tunisian Accreditation Council (TUNAC) has recently started to digitalize its administration system as well as its accreditation processes and has set up a central database for this purpose. TUNAC is carrying out these activities to be able to react to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011 towards accreditation bodies and the accreditation process as well as Tunisian and international regulations in a more efficient way. Moreover, this step is to increase transparency, integrity as well as trust and credibility in the work environment. As part of the project titled “Strengthening quality infrastructure for export – Phase II”, this process has been implemented with the support of PTB.
The pilot project was established by creating virtual spaces for employees and customers, with the objective of managing the accreditation documents of the previously accredited conformity assessment bodies more promptly while maintaining due discretion, and of responding to new demands in a more efficient manner. Costs were saved and work processes were accelerated by reducing manual tasks. The data is acquired one single time and then distributed to the different divisions. The TUNAC staff can now easily access relevant information using this database. This also facilitates collaboration, faster decision-making and the optimization of internal processes.
The application allows all steps of the accreditation process to be tracked. It was primarily developed for managing laboratory documents according to the internationally valid standard for laboratory accreditation in the field of testing and calibration (ISO/IEC 17025) and then gradually developed further in the various divisions of TUNAC, while taking into account the relevant accreditation standards. Access to sensitive information is limited by means of data security measures so that no data is lost due to unforeseen events. The process also contributes to environmental protection because paper, ink and energy are being saved.
“Digital transformation is not possible without PTB”
The introduction and implementation of this application has been a great success and can only be attributed to the commitment of all participants. “This digital transformation would not be possible without the support of PTB. We would therefore like to express our gratitude to the stakeholders for recognizing the importance of digital transformation and for their commitment during this crucial phase for TUNAC”, says Sonia Mahdoui Melki, Quality Director at TUNAC.
She concludes that with the support of PTB, TUNAC was able to purchase the required technologies, provide experts with sound knowledge in the field of IT and network development as well as to train staff in order to enable a smooth transition to these new systems.
