The Regional Days Africa and Middle East took place at PTB in Braunschweig from 4 to 8 March 2024. This event, which had been organized on a regular basis from 2008-2019, has now come back after a break of five years due to the pandemic.
Dr. Annette Röttger, member of PTB’s Presidential Board, opened the Regional Days and expressed her delight at the great number of participants. She complimented the tireless efforts and expertise of those in attendance and proudly highlighted how PTB’s commitment has had a major impact far from home.
The main focus of the Regional Days was to strengthen exchange on topics of project implementation between experts from PTB’s Middle East and Africa projects and the employees of Departments 9.34 and 9.35 of PTB’s International Cooperation group. A total of 71 guests from 18 countries participated in the event.
Laboratory visits, lectures, dialogue forums and an informal exchange of knowledge all conveyed information about PTB and metrology. This year, the focus was on the current guidelines of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), such as its feminist development policy, the just transition framework and regional strategies for the MENA region and Africa, as well as PTB’s internal IZ 2.0 process (international cooperation 2.0).
“Overall, the Regional Days Africa and Middle East went extremely well”, as Janin Fischer, Head of 9.34 (North Africa and Middle East), summed it up. “We discussed controversial matters and exchanged views and information. Besides, it was a nice opportunity to get to know each other.”
